This Last Quarter at MPC Studio
MPC Studio has had an eventful first quarter this year. We deeply appreciate your support, and we’re happy to share our accomplishments with you.
This year we unveiled MPC Studio’s new branding, including a new website portfolio with everything you could want to know about visual artist Mário Pires Cordeiro.
We also shared new completed artworks that dive deeper into an understanding of color and design.
And most recently, we announced MPC’s participation as a facility artist at Minnesota Street Project.
Recent News
In recent weeks, some big things have happened at MPC Studio!
As part of his effort to engage with the community and support the arts, MPC curated the Crucible’s Fire Light Soiree Art Auction show, raising over $50,000 for the arts nonprofit. This is the fourth show Mario has curated for the Crucible, continuing to develop a deeply fulfilling relationship with one of the most important arts nonprofits in the Bay Area.
We would also like to share that Mário Pires Cordeiro is a finalist for the National Parks Foundation Hawaii Volcanoes Artist Residency!
We know that next quarter will reveal new and exciting achievements and artistic pursuits.
New Art
Applying the Benjamin Moore Interior Design Color Forecast of 2017 to the surface of a slab of found granite engraved with stripes, SF No. 3, Stamp shows the resulting stamps that the artist then restored and retouched. The line directions and shape of the piece use visual tricks to transform the space in reference to the physicality of the granite slab.
A Look Back
This month, we look back to MPC’s Assault series of short films. In this particular one, the artist filmed his work the Tower at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, juxtaposing it with the works of Vincent Van Gogh, relating to the famous artist's colors. It has four wheels to make it mobile and uses the colors from the International Colour Authority 2010 color forecast. The artist establishes a connection between Van Gogh's works, made in the late 1880s, and the 2010 color forecast, speaking to the lasting color culture in our society. It is made out of recycled pieces from the Future Prospectus - Pavilion.
